    TeliaSonera to build 4G – next generation mobile network

    TeliaSonera has been awarded nationwide 4G frequencies to build a next generation super-fast mobile network in Sweden. This became clear when the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency, PTS, today announced the winners of the now concluded auction. The commercial launch will take place in 2010 and the network will provide customers with access speeds of more than 100 Mbits/second.

    Electronic billing increasingly popular

    The number of users of Sonera’s electronic invoicing services has grown rapidly during the spring. At present, about 160,000 consumer customers receive their bills electronically. Sonera customers can receive their bills electronically directly at their own web bank. They can also pay their bills on Sonera’s web site through the Omat Sivut (My Pages) service or receive them by email.

    Telia to build superfast fibre network for 27,000 apartments

    Akelius Fastigheter, one of Sweden’s largest private owners of housing accommodation, has signed an agreement with Telia for the build-out of a fibre optic network that will deliver triple play services to all its apartment buildings in Sweden. The agreement is for a nine-year period and is estimated to be worth SEK 700 million.

    Business Services Finland will launch negotiations with the employee representatives on streamlining its operations. Concentrating the resources directly on the customer interface and reorganizing the background and support functions are estimated to lead to the termination of up to 80 jobs in the Business Services sales division and up to 25 jobs in DataInfo Oy, a distribution chain specialized in B2B sales. According to the practice followed by the company in Finland, holders of jobs to be terminated will not be dismissed.

    The coverage area of wireless broadband has expanded so rapidly that increasingly more people in Finland can now acquire broadband access to their homes, holiday cottages, boats and caravans.     Sonera provides an automatic meter reading system for over 100,000 power subscribers of Tampereen Sähköverkko Oy

    Tampereen Sähköverkko Oy and TeliaSonera Finland have made agreed on a procurement of remote reading system for electricity meters and related reading services. The value of the agreement in the whole contract period is over EUR 20 million. The installation will begin in autumn 2008 and continue until 2010, providing more than 100,000 power consumption sites in Tampereen Sähköverkko’s supply area with remote readable meters. The benefits brought about by the new system include more accurate, customer-specific usage data and more efficient distribution network management.

    The Supreme Court rules Tele2 must pay SEK 500 million to TeliaSonera

    As The Supreme Court in Sweden on April 4, 2008, refused Tele2 leave to appeal, Tele2 must now, after a dispute of several years, pay approximately SEK 500 million to TeliaSonera. This ruling will have a positive impact of some SEK 500 million on TeliaSonera’s cash flow when Tele2 makes the payment. The penalty interest included in the court decision will positively affect TeliaSonera’s financial items in the first quarter, 2008, by approximately SEK 275 million.

    Sonera’s customers can receive their invoices electronically at the online bank. The customer can also pay the invoice through the Omat Sivut service at Sonera’s web site or receive it by e-mail at his or her own mailbox. Paying invoices electronically is easy, and electronic payment helps to avoid mistakes, as customers need not type in the invoice details manually. Reduced usage of paper also saves the environment. Sonera’s paper invoices for broadband subscriptions become subject to a charge on April 1, 2008.

    TeliaSonera dramatically lowers prices for mobile data abroad by up to 70 percent

    From April 1st, 2008, TeliaSonera makes it much cheaper for customers to use mobile data in Europe. The new roaming service EuroConnect will dramatically lower the prices of mobile data services. Initially, EuroConnect will be introduced in the TeliaSonera mobile networks in the Nordic and Baltic countries and with other selected mobile operators in various European countries. The service is based on a flat rate model resulting in between 50 and 70 percent lower prices.
