12 October 2012
Late Spring, we launched our sustainability action programme with a main goal to further improve the protection of privacy and freedom of expression in the markets we operate in.
Since then progress has been made in those areas we have committed to; initiating dialogue with telecoms ministers in Central Asia, carrying out of risk assessments vis à vis human rights in business and educating our employees on Code of Ethics.
- We have partnered with the Danish Institute of Human Rights to use their tools when assessing the risks related to human rights. DIHR has developed a tool tailored to TeliaSonera and its human rights risk profile. It includes freedom of expression and privacy issues and is benchmarked on the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. DIHR will also assess TeliaSonera’s consequential mitigation plan. Since our collaboration in the Summer we are on track to develop the tool to suit a telecom operator and to conduct the fact-finding within TeliaSonera.
- Considerable efforts have been put in to ensure that we are able to roll out a robust e-learning tool for all our 29 000 employees across the globe to further engage them on our Code of Ethics and Conduct. Our sustainability team and Finnish supplier Datafisher are together working on finalizing an e-learning tool, which will be rolled out in 2013. In the past few months we have fine-tuned the content and the relevant scenarios with each of our business areas and departments.
- Review and expansion of social engagement projects in the regions and markets in which we operate.
TeliaSonera is committed to rolling out its sustainability action programme. Sustainability is an ongoing journey and our aim is to constantly improve on our deliverables. We are on track to deliver our end of year objectives.
