On 14 June, Lars Nyberg, President and CEO of TeliaSonera and Cecilia Edström, Head of Group Communications and Strategy met with Vice President of the European Commission Neelie Kroes. At the meeting, which was held in connection with the EuroDig conference in Stockholm, TeliaSonera initiated a dialogue on Freedom of Expression and Privacy linked to telecommunications and a free Internet.
Vice President Kroes welcomed the initiative and asked TeliaSonera to provide its views on how companies, countries and the EU can cooperate to protect and respect human rights. These issues and related regulations will be addressed in the European Strategy for Internet Security planned for later this year.
The European Strategy for Internet Security will look at a number of steps including improving cyber security, governance, investment in security technology and global cooperation. The aim of the strategy is to enable a step-change in how Europe ensures Internet Security and it will be embedded in Europe's principles for Internet governance. TeliaSonera will provide its input and stay in regular contact with the European Commission in the preparations of the strategy."
