In a continuous effort of providing innovative services desired by our clients, another mobile payment service has been launched, this time in Lithuania by Omnitel. MokiPay is the name and was introduced in August as the official payment system for the European Men’s Basketball Championship 2011. In Sweden a similar service called Mobile Wallet is offered since the beginning of summer.
Mokipay allows the users to make payment settlements by mobile phones with the use of contactless NFC (Near Field Communication) technology.
Initially, the service has been made available to Omnitel’s subscribers and users of Extra prepaid calls service. Mokipay is functioning already in a few dozens of cafés, clubs and restaurants of Vilnius and Kaunas. Around 2,000 payment terminals have been installed all over Lithuania and Mokipay packages are offered to foreigners.
NFC chip
Presently, there are not many phones integrated with the special NFC chip. Therefore MokiPay has produced special NFC stickers containing chips, due to which the mobile payment service is made available practically for each mobile phone. After registering such sticker in the MokiPay system, it is interconnected to the subscriber’s SIM card.
