Stockholm School of Economics in RigaThe TeliaSonera sponsorship of the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga) was launched in 2004 when TeliaSonera donated the TeliaSonera Professorship in Entrepreneurship at SSE Riga and founded the TeliaSonera Institute at SSE Riga (TSI).
The Institute is a think tank delivering high quality policy-oriented research in the fields of entrepreneurship, telecom and IT. It also supports entrepreneurship in the Baltic countries and plays an active role in fostering a public discussion in its fields of competence. This is done through reports, the TeliaSonera Discussion Paper Series, and through various seminars. Annually, the Institute organizes the TeliaSonera Business Days which serve as an arena where researchers and decision makers meet to discuss topics of relevance to the economic development of Latvia. Topics recently discussed include: Venture Capital in Latvia, Entrepreneurship, and Creative Industries.
TSI is also responsible for the Latvian participation in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM). GEM is a major international research project aimed at investigating entrepreneurial activity across a wide range of countries.
SSE Riga was founded in 1994 and is owned by the Stockholm School of Economics and the Latvian Ministry of Education and Science. The School’s B.Sc. programme in economics and business has students from all three Baltic countries. SSE Riga also offers an Executive MBA programme as well as various Executive Education programmes. SSE Riga, together with the Stockholm School of Economics and SSE Russia, is ranked as one of the top European business schools and as the best one in Eastern Europe.
The donation provides TeliaSonera with an opportunity to actively contribute to the economic and democratic development in the Baltic countries. For TeliaSonera, being one of the largest investors in Latvia, the contribution to the Latvian society and its development is important. In this context the donation plays an important role by stimulating entrepreneurship and hence Latvian economic development.
