Strong position in mobile and fixed communications

TeliaSonera offers mobile services in Latvia through the mobile operator LMT. TeliaSonera owns 60.3 percent of LMT. TeliaSonera also owns 49 percent of the fixed network company Lattelecom. Both companies have strong positions in their respective markets.

The mobile market in Latvia has developed rapidly in recent years. Additional operators have established themselves, but penetration is still somewhat lower than in Estonia and Lithuania.

The fixed network market was deregulated in 2003. Like in the rest of the Baltics, penetration is relatively low at approximately 30 percent.

Lattelecom has almost 100 percent of the market for fixed voice but competition is increasing, primarily from the mobile sector. In fixed communications, growth is occurring primarily within Internet, data communications and broadband.

LMT has a broad range of mobile services and a large portion of value added services. It has the best network coverage in Latvia and a strong position on the market.
