The leading supplier of telecom services
TeliaSonera offers a large range of telecommunication services in Finland and is the leading supplier on the Finnish telecom market. The services are offered under the brand Sonera, TeleFinland and Cygate.
The Finns are dedicated users of mobile communications. Two thirds of all voice minutes in Finland are mobile. Over 40 percent of all households only have mobile telephones and the percentage of prepaid subscriptions is very low in comparison with other countries.
The mobile market is well developed with intense competition and a large number of suppliers.
After the introduction of number portability in the middle of 2003, mobile prices fell sharply, which had a major impact on revenues and earnings. Prices are stabilizing as focus is moving from price to content and customer loyalty but Finland still has some of the lowest mobile prices in Europe.
The market for fixed communications is heavily fragmented with a large number of local operators. Like in TeliaSonera’s other home markets, usage of fixed voice is decreasing while demand for broadband solutions is increasing.
