TeliaSonera is part of our society and our shared future. We strive to take responsibility, to contribute to a sustainable society in the community to become involved and actively participate in the development of programmes that result in a better future.

TeliaSonera is visible in the community in many ways, not only to our customers but also to many stakeholders who are affected by our business. TeliaSonera's community involvement is very versatile and means many things.

It may consist of capacity building for new innovative areas by sponsorship of schools and universities, more traditional event sponsorship or charitable work and donations for organisations representing people with physical or mental impairments. For some, as in the case of TeliaSonera, it may mean concerns of possible health effects of electromagnetic fields at our base stations. Some people may be irritated by the mere sight of masts. On the other hand, with new broad band access and base stations for mobile telephony TeliaSonera may provide totally new opportunities for business in the community - sometimes even the survival of a community.

We believe in partnerships which provide win-win solutions. That is what we call sustainability and it may be short or long term. The ambition is to place more demands on partnerships. The desired impacts and results are still important, but we require that ethical, social and environmental criteria are taken into account when new commercial partnerships are being established. By partnerships, we also mean sourcing of telecom equipment and services.

The Baltic Sea and its surrounding territories is one of the key areas for our commercial partnerships in general and environmental partnerships in particular. The Baltic Sea Region is considered one of the most valuable and environmentally sensitive areas in the world and activities to reduce pollution must therefore be prioritised.
